Lubbock, TX The Lubbock Police Department has released dashcam video of an aggravated assault incident that led to an officer-involved shooting Saturday morning outside a local Walmart store.

The incident occurred at the Walmart store located at 1911 Marsha Sharp Freeway Saturday morning around 7:30 a.m.

Authorities say the suspect attacked an Walmart employee with a baseball bat and large knife.

Lubbock Police Assistant Chief Greg Stevens said officers responded to the scene and informed the suspect to drop the weapons but he refused.

Officers fired three rounds of "non-lethal" (bean bag rounds) at the suspect and also attempted to subdue him with a Taser. A fourth round was then fired at the suspect from a LPD issued shotgun.

According to Assistant Chief Stevens, the fourth round is believed to have ricocheted off the suspect's left arm and struck him in the head.

The suspect has been identified as 50-year-old Martin Salazar Hernandez. Hernandez was transported by UMC EMS to University Medical Center where he is listed in stable condition.

Lubbock Police are working to charge Hernandez with two counts of aggravated assault, resisting arrest and unlawfully carrying of weapons.

Assistant Chief Stevens says the incident is being investigated as an officer-involved shooting.
The Lubbock Police Department will release additional information as the investigation continues.

Very well played. It's good to see when a bad situation like this can be resolved without having to kill the guy. Had he started to move toward any of the officers, they would have been justified in using lethal force, and we would be seeing this in the death video section.
