November 2, 2007 Washington DC police are investigating after an officer was struck by a vehicle at Sherman Avenue and Harvard Street in Northwest.

The officer had been monitoring a stolen vehicle at about 5:12 a.m. when he was struck.

The vehicle pulled into a gas station, when the officer approached the car and the driver pulled off, striking the officer.

The officer shot at the vehicle as it sped away.

The driver of the car then jumped out of the vehicle a short distance away at the 2500 block of 13th Street.

Police said they have the suspect in custody. They said the driver suffered a gunshot wound in the ordeal.

Police said they had been tracking the car through OnStar ever since it was stolen from Florida Avenue and Ontario Street in Northwest.

The officer was transported to a local hospital to have his leg checked out.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
