Police Chase in South Carolina
ANDERSON, S.C. - A man is in custody after a high-speed chase that crossed three counties in the Upstate. According to Lt. Sheila Cole with the Anderson County Sheriff's Office, Monday afternoon a deputy spotted a white truck that was reported in connection with an armed robbery in Oconee County earlier that morning. Cole says the chase started around 2:35 p.m. when the driver refused to stop for Anderson County deputies. Anderson County released the communication between deputies and dispatch, Thursday. You can hear them working to stop the white truck driving speeds up to 115 miles per hour. Anderson County Sheriff John Skipper tells 7 On Your Side the chase suspect, Adam Richardson Martin, had a weapon. Skipper says Martin fired several shots during the chase, but no one was injured by the shots. “He was actually firing a weapon outside the passenger window, like he was trying to shoot out the tires of an 18 wheeler,” said Sheriff Skipper. The chase then crossed into Greenville County. At one point the truck ran into the median, and it briefly ran in reverse on the interstate. Laurens County Sheriff Ricky Chastain reports the chase came to an end in Laurens County. Air 7 was over the scene when the truck crashed on an Interstate 385 exit ramp near Clinton. Chastain says the truck hit a Laurens County Sheriff's deputy car and another car that was stopped on the exit ramp. The driver of the car was transported to the hospital. Anderson County Sheriff Skipper says there was a brief standoff following the crash when Martin held the gun to his head inside the truck. Skipper says Martin later surrendered and was arrested. Martin went before a Lauren's County judge Tuesday. He was charged with Failure to stop for a blue light, Hit and run with great bodily injury, Assault and battery 2nd degree, Malicious Injury to county property and Possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. His bond totals more than $100,000. |
