Pemberton Officer Tries to Stop Motorcyclist Before Fatal Crash
On April 20, 2023, at about 5:02 p.m., Pemberton Township Police Officer LaQuan Jett encountered a motorcycle near County Route 687 West and Davis Street in Pemberton, New Jersey. Police had received a 911 call alleging that John R. Nutt, 41, of Mount Laurel, had stolen a motorcycle. Officer Jett located a motorcycle being driven by Nutt with one passenger on it and attempted to stop it in connection with the investigation. The motorcycle collided with an uninvolved minivan. Nutt died in the crash. His passenger was seriously injured, airlifted to Cooper University Hospital in critical condition, and later released. The two people in the minivan declined medical treatment. A state grand jury concluded its deliberations on April 1, 2024, and voted "no bill," meaning no criminal charges were filed against Officer Jett.
