Oklahoma Trooper Thrown To Side of Highway

State Trooper Jesse Gregory effecting a traffic stop on the highway in Canadian County, Oklahoma. He elects to contact the driver from the passenger side of their vehicle. This decision almost certainly saves his life as an inattentive driver in a black SUV plows into the driver's side of the stopped vehicle. (January 18, 2024)

Holy shit!!

That crash was at speed. Fuck! Probably texting on their phone..

I hope the person in the white vehicle is okay. I’m guessing they got a trip to the hospital for that impact.. fuck, scary shit..

I also hope that the fucking idiot driving the black SUV is dead..

I predict that to address distracted driving, Gov is going to mandate "driver assist" vehicle tech instead of disabling smart phones in motion.

New cars automatically disable a lot of the touchscreen controls while the car is moving.

Re: Oklahoma Trooper Thrown To Side of Highway

Volkswagen/Audi. Ford/Lincoln. Chevy/Buick/GMC. Stellantis products (Dodge, Ram, Chrysler, Jeep, Fiat, etc.) Toyota/Lexus. Nissan/Infiniti. Honda. Kia/Hyundai. Alfa Romeo. Mercedes.

I mean do you want me to list all the car manufacturers that do this? I've worked in car rental for 15 years. I drive new cars almost daily. They all have some kind of lockout for various features while the car is in motion. Some even make you put the car in Park first.

Obviously most allow you to fiddle with the radio, though, which I agree is a distraction. However most models also permit some manipulation of the radio through the steering wheel controls, which is better.

Tesla, though, makes you go through the screen for almost everything, which is BAD and I hate it. The Model 3 even makes you use the screen to access the side mirrors and the windshield wipers. Which is just...retarded. Because then you really are looking at the screen while driving.
