A Knoxville police officer allowed a Knox County assistant district attorney general to drive home after a traffic stop although the officer told the veteran prosecutor who had been drinking that she was "in no shape to be driving."

Officer Hakan Dururvurur pulled over Assistant District Attorney General Samyah Jubran about 11 p.m. Nov. 18 after she failed to stop at a West Knoxville intersection.

Dururvurur smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage on Jubran's breath during the stop at a Weigel's store on Northshore Drive and asked her to perform several field sobriety tests.

When Jubran completed the tests, including standing on one foot, Dururvurur turned off the microphone to his in-cruiser video camera and continued to talk with her.

A second officer at the scene, however, did not turn off his microphone. That audio recording reveals Dururvurur castigating Jubran as being incapable of driving, but the officer was going to do her "a favor."

"I'm going to help you out as much as I can," Dururvurur told Jubran.

Knox County District Attorney General Randy Nichols and Police Chief Sterling P. Owen IV said they didn't know of the Nov. 18 incident until the News Sentinel made inquiries about the stop.

Both administrators said Dururvurur and Jubran did nothing improper, with the exception of disabling the microphone.

Wtf does letting someone go for drinking have to do with terrorism?

Btw, I don't feel he should have let her drive. He should have allowed her to call someone to come get her sure. But I don't feel he should have let her drive knowing she was drunk.

You have never heard that saying "It's not what you know it's who you know?"
