Off-duty Chicago Officer Shoots During Attempted Carjacking
On July 23, 2024, at approximately 5 a.m., off-duty Chicago police Officer Jan Murzyn was involved in an officer-involved shooting near 10800 S. Campbell. Officer Murzyn discharged his firearm at unknown subjects during an attempted carjacking. The shooting was later found to comply with CPD policy. An allegation that Officer Murzyn failed to immediately notify the Office of Emergency Management and Communications of relevant information about his firearm discharge was not sustained.
