Oak Lawn police officers caught and struck a 17-year-old who fled on foot after a traffic stop on July 27, 2022, in Oak Lawn, Illinois. Police recovered a handgun. The teenager suffered a broken nose, skull fractures, a fractured pelvis and brain swelling. He spent six days in a hospital and later used a walker and a cane.

The teenager pleaded guilty in juvenile court to one felony count of unlawful use of a weapon. Counts involving resisting police and cannabis were dropped. One officer was charged with aggravated battery and official misconduct and placed on leave. Prosecutors dropped the charges on December 18, 2024, one day before a scheduled bench trial, saying the evidence was insufficient. The criminal case ended without a finding that the force was unlawful. On November 25, 2025, the village board approved an $825,000 settlement of the teenager's civil lawsuit.
