More than likely the protestors were told repeatedly to clear the street. This is what happens when you decide to be stupid and stay put.

Joining a mob and instigating criminal actions makes you accountable for other bad things that happen without your direct participation. You and your best friend rob a gas station with painted-black toy guns and the clerk blows your friend's head off the clerk has justification he believed he was being threatened with a real pistol you have no justification you started the chaos and you have just committed murder while holding a stupid toy gun trying to get $39 and a carton of smokes. It is safe to say everyone there was committing criminal acts and could have been arrested under new york laws regarding obstruction of traffic, obstruction of a law enforcement officer or disorderly conduct at the very least. Exactly what happened after that I don't know but usually what happens is a few of the rioters let the mob energy overtake their tiny brains and go from a misdemeanor riot to a felony assaulting police with bottles rocks spit etc. At that point you have 75 people doing misdemeanor nonsense but the mob as a whole has become felonious and people are asking to get shot so the police break it up and try to grab a key troublemaker if they can catch one for actual arrest and prosecution for the felonies and misdemeanors they committed. Truth be told the entire mob should have been spread out on the pavement, arrested and charged with the most serious offense committed by any one of them, that is how it works for everyday criminals but the mobs all too often get a free pass because of misguided politics and a lack of resources to actually throw the lot of them in jail were they belong. |
