At about 10:24 p.m. on October 18, 2024, Scott Segreaves, Jr., 20, of Zuni, Virginia, was driving on Water Street in Milford Borough. New Jersey State Police Staff Sergeant Nicholas Pryszlak tried to catch up to his vehicle in connection with a speeding violation.

A commercial surveillance camera recorded both vehicles on Frenchtown Road in Milford. After they turned left onto Stamets Road, Pryszlak activated his lights and siren and followed Segreaves, reaching 73 mph, while Segreaves continued down Stamets Road.

About 45 seconds later, Pryszlak lost sight of Segreaves' vehicle, turned off his lights and siren, and slowed to about 23 mph while using a spotlight to search the area. Segreaves continued down Stamets Road at high speed.

At about 10:26 p.m., Segreaves approached a curve on Stamets Road at 104 mph and lost control. His vehicle went off the road and down an embankment near Stamets Road and Gallmeier Road, hit several trees, and overturned.

Pryszlak did not know the vehicle had crashed. He continued on Stamets Road, asked a civilian in an oncoming vehicle if a car had passed, and then turned right onto Gallmeier Road.

At about 10:28 p.m., Holland Township police received an automated iPhone crash message with coordinates. Pryszlak and Holland Township officers searched the area. At about 10:58 p.m., Pryszlak found the overturned vehicle down the embankment and Segreaves, who had been ejected. Segreaves was pronounced dead at the scene.

A state grand jury concluded deliberations on December 15, 2025, and voted "no bill," finding no criminal charges should be filed against Pryszlak.
