Newton Officers Fatally Shoot Man Outside Clive Place Home
On July 4, 2021, at about 9:30 p.m., three uniformed Newton Police Department officers went to a residence on Clive Place in Newton, New Jersey, after a 911 call from a family member concerned about Gulia Dale, III's behavior and that he had a gun. When officers arrived, Dale, 61, was trying to leave in a vehicle. Officers gave commands for him to get out, and he did. Dale then opened the rear driver's side door, briefly leaned inside, and closed it. Dale got back into the driver's seat while officers continued ordering him to exit. He got out again with an object in his hand. Officer Steven Kneidl and Officer Garrett Armstrong fired their duty weapons, striking the vehicle and fatally wounding Dale. A .45-caliber Glock 21 was recovered near Dale. Officers and emergency medical personnel gave medical aid at the scene, and Dale was later pronounced deceased. The fatal shooting remained under investigation, with the case to be presented to a grand jury when the investigation is complete. Listen to the 911 calls and dispatch audio for this incident here.
