A pair of Montreal newlyweds came back from their honeymoon to find out their wedding gifts had been stolen.

But even though the theft was caught on camera three weeks ago, police have made no progress in catching the thief.

Cote St. Luc couple Steffan D'Alessandro and Magdalena Tarczynski were married last month, and went to Jamaica on their honeymoon.

Before they left they gave money collected at their wedding, $13,000 in cash and another $14,000 in cheques, to D'Alessandro's twin brother Jay for safekeeping.

Unfortunately, despite Jay's fascination with security cameras, his home was anything but secure.

On July 22 someone broke into Jay's apartment, talked on the telephone, put on gloves, then broke into a desk and stole all the money.

Half of the money was owed to the hall where the wedding took place, leaving the newlyweds in a bind.

"Everybody felt bad about what happened, and my parents actually took care of the wedding hall bill so that we came home from our honeymoon in the exact same situation as when we left," said D'Alessandro.

Wedding guests were told to stop payment on the cheques, but the cash is still gone.

The thief was caught on tape, and the tape has been handed over to police.

Three weeks later police have no leads, even though the thief is clearly seen on the video.
On the phone with someone that knew where the money was.

Agreed. Yeah, it was rather strange that a snippy ittle dog like that didn't go after him. That supports the theory that he knew the thief.
