Mental Patient Steals Ambulance; Police Chase It

A Darlington County EMS ambulance was left running and unattended at the ER entrance of the McLeod Regional Medical Center. Around 1 pm a mental patient ran out of the hospital, jumped into the ambulance, and drove away.

On his way out the hospital property, he struck a gate and another ambulance. A police pursuit began very shortly afterwards.

The low-speed chase continued on for several blocks during which the ambulance crashed into still another vehicle and kept on.

The police eventually boxed in the ambulance and brought it to a stop.
