WALDORF, Md. (Feb 22, 2024) — Surveillance video appears to show three suspects in an armed robbery sprinting out of a 7-Eleven and piling into a getaway car stopped right next to a marked Charles County Sheriff's Office patrol car.
The reported robbery occurred at 3 am on Thursday, February 8 at the 7-Eleven location at 11575 Berry Road near the intersection with US 301.
Two marked Sheriff's Office patrol cars can be seen circling the parking lot of the convenience store and then stopping in front of the store. The officer in the lead vehicle gets out and walks around to the passenger side where he appears to look at something in the passenger seat.
That's when one suspect appears in dark clothing and is seen sprinting out of the store and into a dark-colored sedan which has slowly pulled just in front of the Sheriff's Office vehicle. Five seconds later, two other suspects run out of the store and you see the officer pull out his sidearm and level it at the vehicle.
By then, however, the third suspect is in the vehicle and it begins to pull away. You then see the second patrol unit initiate its lights and pull away to follow the suspect vehicle. The first officer can be seen on his radio, presumably calling into dispatch to report what had just occurred.
Spokesperson Diane Richardson with the Charles County Sheriff's Office said their officers had received word about a 7-Eleven robbery that happened several hours earlier in Prince George's County and officers were proactively canvassing local 7-Eleven stores.
"Our officers respond to and face dangerous situations every day, some with warning and others without," Richardson said. "Clearly in this case the officers were not aware that a robbery was occurring. As soon as they recognized what was happening they took action and pursued the suspects."
Inside the 7-Eleven store, the employees were forced into the back of the store at gunpoint. She says local and federal law enforcement partners are working to identify the suspects. Deputies discontinued their pursuit after the suspect reached high speeds and crossed into Prince George's County.
