Marlon Taylor Jailed 18 Months for Beating a Lorain County Jail Inmate, 2012
Lorain County corrections officer Marlon Taylor repeatedly struck an 18-year-old inmate at the county jail in Elyria, Ohio, on July 29, 2012, after the inmate refused antidepressant medication. Taylor was helping distribute medication when he ordered the inmate to segregation, then hit him with his hand and elbow, knocked him down and continued striking him until other officers intervened. The inmate kept his hands at his sides and did not strike back. Jail surveillance recorded the assault. The inmate's injuries were not serious. Taylor was fired in October 2012. A county assault charge was dismissed so federal investigators could take the case. Taylor later pleaded guilty to one count of deprivation of rights under color of law. On January 14, 2014, he was sentenced to 18 months in prison followed by two years of supervised release. The judge said she imposed one month for each of the 18 blows she counted on the surveillance video. |
