A 45-year-old woman was choked with a belt and sexually assaulted near East 152nd Street and Third Avenue in the Bronx on May 1, 2024, police said. The attacker followed her along the sidewalk, pulled the belt around her neck until she lost consciousness and dragged her between parked cars. She was taken to Lincoln hospital in stable condition.

Surveillance footage shows a man wearing a light-colored hoodie, a face mask and a backpack following the woman before the attack and moving her between the vehicles afterward. Police arrested Kashaan Parks, 39, on May 11, 2024, and charged him with rape, strangulation, assault and sexual abuse; no outcome of the case has been reported.

It takes several minutes for a person to die from lack of oxygen. We can pass out quick enough but death takes a little while to come.

Quick tip: if someone ever tries to choke you like this...you only have around 10 seconds or so to react and do something. One way to buy some more time, is to turn your head to the side or if you can, turn yourself around quickly, so the belt/arm/rope/whatever goes around the back of your head. Then, go for the attackers eyes or balls...he can't defend himself for a brief moment, because both of his hands are tied by holding the belt/rope.
PS: When I was a teen, we used to play a "choking" game, where you took a belt/towel or anything, wrapped it around your neck and choked yourself until you passed out( we didn't have phones or computers back then, nor did we have parental oversight :D ). Regaining consciousness gives you a kind of "high" and overall, this game was quite addictive.
