Man Arrested After Punching Bus Driver

A confrontation and beating aboard a Broward County public transit bus that was captured on surveillance video left the driver battered and bruised and has landed his alleged assailant behind bars.

The incident happened late Thursday afternoon as the driver, Larry Kahn, 60, was driving his bus southbound along the 3100 block of State Road 7 in Lauderdale Lakes, FL.

Surveillance video from the bus shows a young man wearing a red shirt, black jacket and shorts confronting Kahn and apparently throwing punches before getting off the bus and eventually getting back on the vehicle with at least one passenger helping to restrain him.

The man accused of beating Kahn, Dudley Randall Pierre, 22, of Deerfield Beach is facing multiple charges including battery and robbery.

According to an arrest report:

Kahn told Broward Sheriff's Office deputies that the man later identified as Pierre initially approached the driver's area of the bus and stepped on the vehicle's brake pedal causing it to stop short and lunging passengers forward.

Pierre then punched Kahn in the face while trying to take his cellphone, the report said.

Pierre got off the bus and ran to a nearby gas station where he confronted a man inside a car and began hitting him with a stick.

Passengers aboard the bus were able to point out Pierre to authorities who apprehended and arrested him.

Pierre is being held without bond at Broward County's Main Jail.

Bus driver Larry Kahn, sporting a split lip and a black eye, doesn't know why he why he was attacked but knows he doesn't ever want to encounter Pierre again.
"He needs to be locked up. He needs to be kept away from people," Kahn said.
