LVMPD Officer Shoots Armed Man During Apartment Call
On January 6, 2026, at about 7:32 a.m., LVMPD communications received a text to 911 from a woman who said she was being threatened by a man with a gun and asked officers to hurry. The phone number was traced to an apartment complex in the 9200 block of West Russell Road. A short time later, the same number called 911, and a woman was heard crying and begging a male to stop and let her leave. There was what sounded like a brief struggle before the line disconnected. Officers arrived, found the apartment, and heard what they believed was arguing inside. The door opened from the inside, and a female quickly crawled out to officers in the hallway. At the same time, Officer Taylor saw a male, later identified as Justin Walsh, standing near the doorway armed with a gun. Officers gave verbal commands. Walsh pointed a firearm toward the officers and the victim, and Officer Taylor fired. Walsh was struck by gunfire. Officers took him into custody and rendered aid until medical personnel arrived. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died. The female was treated at the scene for minor injuries. The LVMPD Critical Incident Review Team is examining the incident for policy, tactics, and training related to the use of force.
