A 15-year-old has been charged with aggravated robbery after an east Christchurch (NZ) liquor store worker, Gursharan Singh (27), had bottles smashed over his head during a messy burglary.
The worker was hit with a "large" bottle after he tried to stop two people leaving without paying after he refused to help the teens and asked for their id's and then tried to ring police from the Woolston Liquor Store just before 11pm on Saturday.
The two offenders were wrestling with the man as he grabbed the phone and was struck by a bottle. Two more bottles were also smashed on the man's head, police say.
The beaten worker, another shop attendant and a customer then hid in a rear store room as two more bottles were thrown at them.
The offenders took several bottles of alcohol with them before leaving in a stolen car, police said.
A 15-year-old boy was later arrested and charged with aggravated robbery and police are speaking to a 16-year-old boy. Further arrests are expected
