Lawyer Adair Pereira de Araújo Shot Dead in Luziânia, Brazil, April 3, 2025
Adair Pereira de Araújo, a 47-year-old lawyer and alternate city councillor, was chased on foot and shot dead outside a motel in Luziânia, Goiás, Brazil, on April 3, 2025. The daylight attack happened on Rua Dr. Neylo Rolim in the Parque Alvorada I neighborhood, a few meters from his law office. A gunman got out of a silver Fiat Punto, pursued Araújo and fired more than 10 shots before returning to the car and reversing away at high speed. Security camera footage shows the car, a running figure and the vehicle reversing away. Police found the Punto abandoned that night on the way out of the city. Araújo had run for city council with Progressistas in 2024, receiving 408 votes and becoming an alternate. The Goiás Civil Police homicide unit investigated the killing. The motive remained unknown, and the case remained unsolved as of April 2025. |
