how cool is that
Video shared by the Lenexa, Kansas, Police Department shows two officers deploying a "Grappler," or specialized tool designed to disable vehicles in a police chase, to stop a stolen vehicle.
The Grappler is a tool located in a specialized bumper for law enforcement vehicles that allows authorities to deploy a nylon net that will wrap around the rear tire of a fleeing vehicle, immobilizing it, and bringing the vehicle to a stop.
Other Kansas City area law enforcement agencies have started to use the Grappler device in recent months. Lenexa is the first department in Kansas to use the system.
Two dayshift sergeants were out patrolling when they tried to make a stop on what turned out to be a stolen van. Watch the attached video to see how a police chase ended in a matter of seconds after authorities used the Grappler.
Police said the driver of the van was taken into custody and has since been charged by the Johnson County District Attorney's Office with vehicle theft, felony fleeing, possession of meth, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
