The sheriff's office is offering a $1,500 reward to anyone with information that leads to the arrest of William Hewett.
The Brunswick County Sheriff's office has released new video and details of the moment an inmate escaped.
This comes as the search for William Earl Hewett extends into South Carolina. Officials believe he has family that lives in the Horry County area.
The video shows William, who had posed as his brother Curtis Hewett to make it through layers of security, walk through the jail lobby and out the front door.
As he opened the door, the desk officer noticed William was not the right person, and followed him outside. From there, William took off running, shedding a jacket and pair of boots as he made his way into a wooded area across from the court house.
Audio recorded during a jail phone call between William and his mother lays out the plan for his escape.
"William: 'Whenever they call for Hewett to release later on, I'm going to come up there...so I can come home.'
Mother: 'So you going to let Curtis stay in there and you're going to pretend like you're William?'" William goes on to tell his family that he will see them later on that evening.
