IMPD SWAT Officers Fatally Shoot Armed Man in Franklin
On November 22, 2025, IMPD officers were called to the 1700 block of James Run Way in Indianapolis and found a 64-year-old man shot and killed inside his home. Investigators developed 37-year-old Robert Bido of Indianapolis as a person of interest in that homicide. On November 24, arrest warrants were issued for Bido in an unrelated case on felony charges including domestic battery in the presence of a child, strangulation, and pointing a firearm. On November 25, just after 1:30 p.m., IMPD detectives located Bido inside a semi-truck parked in the 1200 block of Mitsubishi Parkway in Franklin. IMPD SWAT officers surrounded the truck. As they approached, Bido closed the driver's side door, and a SWAT officer deployed a flash bang. Officers used a public address system and ordered Bido to show his hands and exit. One officer fired less-lethal rounds to break a window and later tossed tear gas into the cab. Bido threw the tear gas canister out and continued to ignore commands. After more gas was deployed, a Franklin police K9 officer yelled, "He's got a gun." Officer McInerney announced that Bido was holding a shotgun. Bido then moved toward the passenger-side window and raised the shotgun at officers. SWAT officers McCrary, Nicholson, and McInerney fired their service weapons. Officers and a SWAT medic gave medical aid until additional medical personnel arrived. Bido was taken to a hospital and later pronounced dead. Bido was armed with a shotgun, which was later determined to be unloaded. No officers or uninvolved community members were physically injured.
