Illegal Gambian Teenager Shot and Killed After Knife Attack on a Cabbie
On May 14, three days before the young Gambian was shot dead at Gran Canaria Airport, the National Police arrested him after several calls from neighbors alerted them to the presence of a man walking erratically on the GC-5. Specifically, he was at the Las Brujas roundabout, endangering traffic, according to police sources. Once officers arrived to stop the unarmed man, he was arrested for assaulting a police officer after resisting police and taken to court. He was eventually released.  Investigative Court No. 2 in Telde is now investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of the 18-year-old victim, who arrived on the islands illegally as a minor in 2021. In the incident on Saturday the 17th at Gran Canaria Airport, the young man was shot five times, one of them in the neck, after he attempted to attack a taxi driver with a knife, attempted to assault another person inside Terminal 2, and knocked down a law enforcement officer during his confrontation with the police. |
