Hollenbeck OIS After Stolen Pickup Pursuit
On June 9, 2026, at about 1:47 p.m., uniformed officers assigned to Newton Patrol Division saw a gray pickup truck with a temporary paper license plate parked near Washington Boulevard and Alameda Street in Los Angeles. They also saw a pedestrian standing in the roadway next to the driver's side door. As officers approached, they saw the driver had a handgun. When they tried to detain him, he drove off at high speed. Officers pursued the vehicle into the Hollenbeck Area, where the driver crashed into a fence and ran from the pickup. During the foot pursuit, the suspect produced a handgun and fired at the officers. An officer-involved shooting occurred. One officer was hit in the chest, but the round did not penetrate his ballistic vest. He had non-life-threatening injuries, was taken to a hospital, and was later released. The suspect was struck by gunfire, fell to the ground, and dropped his handgun. Officers took him into custody, secured the handgun, and requested an ambulance. Los Angeles Fire Department personnel took him to a hospital, where he was treated for multiple gunshot wounds. The pickup was determined to be a reported stolen vehicle. The firearm was recovered at the scene and booked as evidence. No other officers or community members were injured.
