A 25-year-old man was the target of an attempted murder in front of a beverage distributor, on Wednesday night, in the São Domingos neighborhood, in Sorriso, 420 km from Cuiabá.

According to the Military Police, the suspect pointed a gun at the victim's head and tried to shoot twice, but the gun malfunctioned. During the escape, the suspect also allegedly stole a bicycle.

Security cameras captured the moment the suspect pointed a gun at the young man's head. The victim stood still for a few seconds, then reacted and lunged at the suspect, who tried to shoot again. Then, the two ran away.

A witness also got into a physical altercation with the suspect, who managed to flee the scene. During his escape, according to police, he stole a pink bicycle. The bicycle was found nearby.

At the scene, the suspect dropped a cell phone. Behind the phone's case, police found a quantity of a substance similar to cocaine. A black motorcycle, with its license plate bent, was also found and seized. According to police, the vehicle was allegedly used in the attempted homicide.

The victim told police that he is a cocaine user and that he owed R$1,000 to a criminal faction. He also reported that he had been receiving death threats for several days.

The Military Police searched the area, but the suspect was not located by the time the police report was filed.

The case remains under investigation.
