High Speed Police Chase Ends with Crash & Suspect Getting Shot & Killed

Quote:
The Bradford County Sheriff's Office says there had been a BOLO out for the suspect, James Estes, wanted for two separate robberies earlier that day in February.

As deputies chase the suspect through Starke, you , school buses and other cars have to get out of the way to avoid getting hit.

"They were lucky nobody else got hurt," said Allan Nettles, a local resident, who says the sheriff's office took this too far.

"If they were going to do something, they should have done it a long time ago or not at all.

To shoot somebody going by like that, the cops are taking a chance, everybody is taking a chance.

They are lucky there wasn't a school bus or kids there," he said.

But two separate grand jury's investigating the case decided the deputies were justified.

Sheriff Gordon Smith was one of the first ones to fire his gun at the suspect that day.

He says he and the other deputies shot Estes to protect the public.

"He makes every attempt, he splits cars going between them down the highway. This guy was a menace to society and we did what we had to do. I have no regrets."

They say they were forced to end his life the same way Estes lived his life...full of violence.

I have no regrets

...And he wouldn't, most Sheriff departments will shoot you dead rather than take you alive, they aren't willing to deal with you like city police are...lol

So the officer shot the suspect in the head while going, what looks like, 70+ mph? That's fuckin badass.

at this rate they should have jumped from their squad vehicle to the roof of the speeding vehicle. Then they could have crawled into the passenger seat, neutralize the driver and take the vehicle under control. - (that's just exhausting.. BOOM! Headshot!) I love it.

Re: High Speed Police Chase Ends with Crash & Suspect Getting Shot & Killed

These high speed chases are so dangerous as often the perps have no regard to innocent people who could be hurt or injured. I know it would never happen but I wish a law were passed that if you flee a traffic stop that officers are within their rights to fire at will at the escaping car.

While it might seem extreme to the innocent people killed in these high speed chases and the ones they left behind it isn't extreme at all.
