High Speed Chase and Crash
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C.- A high speed chase involving a Charleston County Sheriff's deputy resulted in an accident late Saturday night that sent two people to the hospital. According to officials with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a deputy was in pursuit of a suspect driving a 2004 Mercury SUV. The suspect exited I-526 at Dorchester Road, ran a red light and hit a 2012 Dodge van on its left side. A trooper with the SCHP said the suspect's car caught fire after the collision. The suspect was transported to MUSC with serious injuries. The driver of the Dodge van was also sent to MUSC with injuries not believed to be life-threatening. Officials with the Charleston County Sheriff's Office say Eddie Clayton of Crossroads Drive in North Charleston was the driver of the SUV. Clayton has been charged with reckless driving and failure to stop for a blue light. The deputy involved in the chase was reportedly responding to a request for help in a foot chase involving someone wanted when he spotted the SUV, according to a report, "traveling recklessly and at a high rate of speed." According to an incident report provided by the sheriff's office, Clayton said he didn't see the officer in pursuit and had his music loud while driving fast. Clayton reportedly passed out after EMS arrived on the scene. The incident is still under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol. |

So, is it always necessary to get into a high speed pursuit only to have it become deadly or close to it? This is the 4th or so video I have seen of cops in pursuit at disgustingly fast speeds and ending in major damage, injury and/or death! I think the ones I saw were all from South Carolina!
