A man who was caught on video brazenly smashing the windows of an LAPD car in broad daylight in a busy area of Hollywood was identified Wednesday as Leyston Dontail Rice, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

A person dressed as Darth Vader looked on as a man bashed in the windows of a patrol car on Hollywood Boulevard Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014.

Rice, 27, was suspected of smashing the windows of an LAPD patrol car near the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue on Tuesday.

A news station reporter who was in the area working on an unrelated story, shot video of the incident.

The police vehicle was parked on Hollywood Boulevard, right in front of the Hollywood & Highland shopping center and across from the El Capitan Theatre.

Video showed a costumed Darth Vader looking on as the man identified by authorities as Rice began smashing in the patrol’s cars windows.

At one point, he removed a laptop from the vehicle, and then walked to a nearby kiosk, where he opened the computer and began to use it, video showed.

Within minutes, police officers arrived and pulled the man down onto the Walk of Fame.

Rice was arrested and booked at LAPD’s Hollywood Station, county inmate records showed. He was being held on $20,000 bail.

Leyston Rice, 27, was charged with one count each of vandalism, burglary from a vehicle, and grand theft, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

He pleaded not guilty.

Please tell me that Superman and Darth Vader don’t really walk the streets and that someone is dumb enough to break the back window of a cop car when he really wants to get into the front section, so then spends more time breaking into the front, to steal the laptop while news people film him in the act in broad daylight.
