Thirty or more patrons were dancing and socializing at Brownie's Pub in Upper Darby over the weekend when a man walked up behind another, reached around and slashed his throat with a heavy serrated knife.

"It was almost like a hit," Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said of the incident.

He praised bar patrons who he said ran after and caught the assailant, whose clothes were bloody, and held him for police. Chitwood identified him as Julius Wilcox, 26, of Clifton Heights.

A knife believed to be the assault weapon was found nearby, Chitwood said.

Film obtained from the security camera at Brownie's Pub, on Garrett Road near Chestnut Street, shows the assailant walking up behind the 39-year-old victim, who was seated at a table, just after 11 p.m. Friday, and attacking him, Chitwood said.

The victim, who was helped by bar patrons who tried to stem the bleeding, was not identified. He was rushed to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was admitted in serious condition. The hospital could not give an update yesterday.

On the film, Chitwood said, one man can be seen taking off his shirt and wrapping it around the victim's throat to try to stem the bleeding and another offering a towel for the same purpose.

Chitwood said that the victim had told police he didn't know Wilcox and that Wilcox wasn't talking.

Chitwood said that Wilcox has a history of drug arrests but nothing of a violent nature.

Id like to reply my 2 cents to this persons comment, but on another note..I hope the victim survived this...horrible and glad he had people there trying to help him...and get the attacker
