Gun Thieves Smash Stolen SUV into Gunshop

Police have released surveillance video of thieves using an SUV to smash into a North Charleston gun shop and steal ten handguns Thursday morning.

North Charleston Police were able to recover one gun left in pine straw in front of the business. Video surveillance shows the thieves rush into the store, smash two glass cases and run out with the merchandise.

"The thieves were idiots. I will say that. You can just tell they had no idea what they were doing," Guns and Gold Trading Post owner Thane Hollington said.

The incident happened around 3:30 a.m. at the Guns and Gold Trading Post on University Boulevard, located between Fernwood Drive and Shadow Lane.

Police say a white, Acura MDX was driven through the front door of the business. The vehicle was still running when police arrived, and the driver was not at the scene. They say the SUV was stolen out of Dorchester County.

An incident report states the stolen handguns, which included Glock, Ruger, Taurus and Sig Sauer brands, totaled $4000.

"I'm more thankful we had the alarm system to call the police. We also have a siren that's so loud you can't function and I think that's what scared them off," Hollington said.
