Frits Ramandey, head of the Komnas HAM Papua office, was evacuated by helicopter after a joint police and military search team came under fire near Meyah Lama village in Teluk Bintuni regency, West Papua, Indonesia, on April 27, 2025. The team was searching for police officer Tomi Samuel Marbun, who had been missing since December 2024. Ramandey accompanied the search to monitor human-rights standards.

Brimob personnel shielded Ramandey and his group before they were flown to the Meyado tactical post. Police attributed the attack to an armed group they call the KKB. Police said Ramandey suffered minor injuries while escaping; other accounts said no one was injured. No deaths were reported. A video attributed to the evacuation shows a helmeted gunner firing from an open helicopter door above lowland forest and a river. The targets are not visible.

I think he's harnessed into the door. His buddy is just keeping him steady. Obviously they've done this before.
