Fleeing Robbers in a Stolen Car Hit a Police Officer in the Street
A security camera video captured a violent attack on a police officer by individuals fleeing an inspection while riding in a car identified as having an active robbery warrant. Three individuals were arrested for this incident, one of whom was shot after police used their service weapon. It all began with the aforementioned attempt by Carabineros to stop a red Toyota Yaris. It was at that moment that the occupants fled, dodging police officers through various streets in downtown Santiago. The police officer who was run over can be seen positioning himself on the roadway of Miraflores Street, near the intersection with Huérfanos. Initially, he stands in front of a vehicle that had no connection with the procedure, waiting for the red car. Once he confronts the police officer, he points his service weapon at him, at which point he is struck by the vehicle. At that moment, he suffers a violent blow to his left leg, which collides with a truck that was on the scene. Two police officers on motorcycles subsequently continued the chase, while a third remained with the officer who had been run over. Finally, in the area of Catedral and Teatinos, the suspects were arrested. All three are believed to be minors, foreigners and in an illegal situation. Prosecutor Macarena Cañas indicated that there are at least 2 crimes involved in the incident: Attempted murder of the police officer and receiving stolen goods for the stolen vehicle. A firearm was also seized from the stolen red car. The police officer remains under observation at the Carabineros Hospital, with serious injuries and not in a life-threatening situation. The same is true for the criminal with a gunshot wound to the leg, resulting from the use of the Carabineros service weapon, who is also not in a life-threatening situation. |
