Fleeing Motorist with Pipe Bombs in His Trunk Crashes into Neighbourhood Fence
Auburn police have released dash-cam video from a patrol officer chasing after a man suspected of having pipe bombs in his trunk, capturing the suspect's crash into a neighborhood fence. Officers said the Aug. 24 incident began with the man driving to a new housing development on Auburn's West Hill and opening two or three fire hydrants, then waiting in the distance for the fire department to show up. As firefighters worked to clean up the damage and police were called, the man apparently went back to his home, retrieved pipe bombs, and returned to the same neighborhood, Auburn police said. An officer spotted the suspect and tried to pull him over for the vandalism, but since the man now had explosives in the car, he tried to drive away, according to Auburn police. A two-minute chase ensued with the suspect damaging cars has he tried to turn around in a drive way, then lost control after the officer attempted a PIT maneuver, crashing into a fence. The driver got out and ran off on foot, but he was eventually captured. During the arrest, the pipe bombs were discovered in the suspect's trunk, and a Federal Way bomb disposal unit was called in to defuse them, police said. Some conversation between the suspect and the cop can be heard after the crash. Why did you flee? "Because i don't have a car insurance" lol |
