Fleeing Driver Crashes His Car into a Police Cruiser with Teenager As Passenger

A high-speed chase in Alabama ended with a fleeing driver crashing his car into a police cruiser with a teenager in the passenger seat for a ride-along.

The suspect, identified as Kori Stanford, 23, led several agencies on a nearly 20-minute chase on highways and residential streets while smiling and waving out the window at police.

A police officer had tried to pull Stanford over for a traffic stop on May 28 after he violated a protection order by visiting an ex-girlfriend, but he sped away in a PT Cruiser.

The violent crash only resulted in minor injuries for the deputy and 16-year-old Jared Hinkle, who recorded the chase from the passenger seat of a deputy’s car for the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office explorer program.

After the impact, Hinkle managed to call father — a Chambers County Sheriff’s deputy — to let him know he and the deputy, his father’s best friend, had been in an accident, but they were okay.
The crash, however, did not stop Stanford from trying to get away again.

The officers had to tase him during the arrest, and they took him to a hospital after he complained of an injury to his side.

He has been charged with attempting to elude, reckless endangerment and a plethfora of traffic violations after he ran through stop signs, red lights, hitting several cars, including civilian and police cruishers, and driving through a yard during the chase.

The adrenaline-pumping chase won’t stop Hinkle from staying in the Police Explorer program because, like his father, he wants to be a deputy as well.

“You never know what the next call will be,” Hinkle told the TV station. “This is what I have a passion to do — to protect folks in this community and help out.”
