Female Tobacconist Clerk Tries to Stop 2 Robbers in Car, Using Dumpsters
Spain, What seemed like a quick and simple robbery turned into a nightmare for two thieves due to the courage of the victim, the clerk of a tobacconist, who tried to hold the criminals by blocking their way with two containers when they fled with a car. The robbers were arrested shortly after by the Police after being located with the local video surveillance cameras. The events occurred around half past six on Monday afternoon. After threatening the tobacconist with a knife and stealing several cartons of tobacco, the criminal got into the car where a buddy was waiting for him at the wheel to escape. The woman left behind the thieves and tried to hold them until the police arrived. The merchant pushed two containers, with the help of two neighbors, to block the path of the Audi A4 in which the criminals were fleeing, the private vehicle of a local police, but the driver accelerated and moved the containers with great risk of running over to the three people. They were moments of great tension that were also experienced from the balconies, where other neighbors rebuked the thieves. Every time the car moved, the woman tried to position the container so that the driver and her partner could not escape. The tobacconist was injured in the leg when she was hit by the vehicle. After several maneuvers, the robbers fled with the Audi A4 after charging at high speed against the garbage cans that the neighbors placed in the middle of the street to block their way. Several police patrols rushed to the scene, but the thieves eluded the police fence and managed to escape. Shortly after, two patrols of the National Police and Local Police arrested the criminals. One of them declared that the car used in the robbery belongs to his partner: a local police officer from Aldaia who is on leave. The National Police has taken charge of the investigations and of the two detainees: Santiago RM and César MC, 30 and 35 years old, respectively. In the vehicle search, the agents found two kitchen knives, two caps and a shield from the police uniform of the owner of the car, as well as several bulletins of complaints from the City Council, a whistle and notes with police information. Once in the dungeons, one of the detainees tried to suffocate himself with a blanket, but the quick intervention of a police officer prevented him from suffocating, according to legal sources. Video surveillance cameras have once again been key to the arrest of the robbers. Once again, through this security system, the agents were aware of the entrance to the municipality of the vehicle in which the thieves were fleeing. It was 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Immediately, knowing the exact location that the cameras were providing in real time, the policemen set up control devices in different points of the population. Finally, the agents intercepted and arrested the criminals at a gas station when they were about to refuel. The detainees are also suspected of a robbery committed in a supermarket. A few days ago, video surveillance cameras were also key to arresting two women and a man in less than 24 hours for trying to rob two elderly people. The father-in-law of the victim and former owner of the tobacconist, a business that opened in 1956, highlights the courage shown by his daughter-in-law. "He went out behind the thieves without thinking and tried to open the driver's door," explains Francisco. "He got hit in the leg and he has a broken ankle." In fact, the woman was later transferred to the hospital. "She is fine but very scared," added the victim's father-in-law. The man appreciates the help received from the neighbors and pedestrians who were passing through the street at that time and who collaborated to retain the assailants, putting their lives at risk. A car rammed by the robbers' Audi in its flight suffered damage to the front door and the rear-view mirror, which was left hanging. The tobacconist already suffered two robberies in the same month five years ago and since then they installed a window to protect themselves. "The first time they threatened us with a knife and took the proceeds, and the second time a car stopped at the door and a man got out to rob us," says Francisco. He also pointed out that they are studying the installation of cameras with a dissuasive intention, because "young people come who ask you for a pack of tobacco and run away." Francisco acknowledges that on this occasion "they have caused more inconvenience than what they have taken away." |
