Charleston, S.C. — Charleston County jail officials have released video showing a guard attacking an inmate as she is being booked.

The video made public shows a female guard walking over to where the woman is being booked on Dec. 17.

The pair talk for about 20 seconds before the guard grabs the woman by the throat and punches her in the face several times.

Several other guards break up the fight.
The video ends with the woman in a holding cell.

Deputies say the woman was being booked on an alcohol violation from Folly Beach.

Investigators say the guard, 35-year-old Repeunzel Rivers, was charged last week with third-degree assault and battery and misconduct in office.
