April 17, 2009 ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Orlando police arrested a suspected bank robber Friday afternoon.
Officers said a man entered a Banco Popular on South Orange Avenue and demanded money.
The suspect, 34-year-old Michael Daak, fled the scene police say, on a bicycle.
Deputies say a concerned citizen who was paying attention helped catch the suspected bank robber.
"That's when I saw him running," said witness Alfred Peoples.
Peoples says he couldn't believe it. He saw a guy walk out the Banco Popular with a money bag and then saw a cloud of red.
"I just saw all this red stuff like it was a trail of dust behind this guy and I was like, 'what is this stuff?'" he said.
Police say the red cloud came from a dye pack explosion from the bag that held the money.
Daak could have made an easy escape, but Peoples stopped that from happening.
Alfred Peoples is a UPS delivery man, who pointed police in the suspect's direction.
"I couldn't believe it, I called 911 as soon as I saw that," he said.
Officers caught Daak less than a mile away from the scene at West Esther Street and Lucerne Terrace.
"You know he did it in the right way when he was able to share with us what we needed to know and allowed us to do our jobs and that's really what we want," said Barbara Jones of the Orlando Police Department.
Peoples says he was happy to help, but UPS did make him go off the clock while he was helping officers.
"I was willing to do that, it wasn't a big deal," Peoples said.
Damn fool lmfao.
