DUI Woman in Florida Drives Car into Water at Packed Beach
Families at Smyrna Dunes Park were shocked when a car came flying down the beach nearly hitting people and dogs along the way. It happened Saturday afternoon while the beach was packed. Video captured by beachgoers shows a blue Nisson SUV slowly sinking after coming to a stop. "They just flew past us," said Joyce Santos. Witnesses say they saw the car driving along the waterline just missing children in the water. 26-year-old Sarah Ramsammy faces charges of DUI, reckless driving, failure to obey a traffic control device. Deputies said 26-year-old Sarah Ramsammy “plowed into the water” after driving 50 mph past beachgoers and almost hitting a child on Saturday in New Smyrna Beach. “This man, he just shouted, ‘Hey, watch out!’ And my daughter was right there at the shoreline. She’s only three years old. And the blue car was probably about a foot or two away from her,” said Ashley Young, who was there with her daughter and dog. Ramsammy had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.153 and faces charges of DUI, reckless driving and failure to obey a traffic control device, according to the sheriff’s office. Bodycam video shows Ramsammy asking a deputy, “And why am I going to jail?’ The deputy politely tells her, “Right now I think you’re driving under the influence,” to which Ramsammy only replies, “OK.” Ramsammy was released on $1,500 bond, according to the sheriff’s office. “I started, like, banging on the driver’s side window,” Young said. “And both people in the car did not even look at or acknowledge me. And they actually sped up and kept barreling down this pathway. “There was no apology. I feel like any normal sane person would have just said like, ‘I didn’t mean to. I’m sorry,’” Young added. “She just wasn’t sorry about anything, which I think was really shocking to me.”  |
