Translated News Police have arrested a former Royal Thai Navy officer who shot a woman and sexually harassed another woman at a grocery store in the northern province of Chiang Rai, Thailand recently. It is understood that during the incident the suspect also threatened the public at the scene of the incident that he could kill anyone because he was a naval officer. Citing international media reports, ThaigerNews, several Chaing Khong police officers were deployed to the scene after receiving a report from a resident. Upon arrival at the scene, the police found the victim, Nongnuch Saenboonma, 48 years old, with a gunshot wound to the stomach and took him to the hospital. Meanwhile, the suspect Thana Hinsuwan, 69 years old, was arrested by the victim's friend Thaworn at the scene of the incident and handed over to the police after the incident. The police also seized the gun that was used to shoot the victim. Thaworn when interviewed by the media said that at the time of the incident the suspect was under the influence of alcohol which caused him to act out of control. "The suspect was drunk and started sexually harassing a woman by touching her breasts. Everyone in the shop advised him to go home for his safety but Thana insisted on staying inside the shop. Meanwhile, the victim, Nongnuch, tried to convince Thana to contact his wife and returned home made him angry. Thana then took out a gun from the bag on his waist and suddenly shot Nongnuch in the stomach. After the shooting, Thana shouted at the crowd that he could kill anyone," he recounted the incident. In other developments, Chiang Khong Police Officer, Ittiphon Chalathanyakit, said the victim was safe and stable but still receiving further treatment at Chiangrai Prachanukroh Hospital. "Thana faces two charges of attempted murder and using a gun in public without permission. For the charge of attempted murder, the former army officer will face charges of murder and if found guilty will be sentenced to life imprisonment or imprisonment from 15 to 20 years. |
