Drunk Driver Runs From Troopers, Gets Bit By K9
Troopers used a tactical vehicle intervention to stop a fleeing driver, James V. Gregory, in West Memphis, Arkansas, on Aug. 29, 2026. The pursuit began after Troopers tried to stop a Nissan Versa that passed troopers stopped with emergency lights on Interstate 40 and swerved between lanes. The driver exited onto MLK Drive and accelerated as the Trooper activated his emergency lights and continued onto Broadway. The Nissan exceeded 80 mph in 30- and 35-mph zones, ran a red light and repeatedly braked hard. After earlier attempts failed to end the pursuit, it was stopped near Eighth Street. The driver fled on foot toward a residential neighborhood. Trooper Fultz deployed his K-9, which apprehended the driver. The troopers took the driver into custody.

Re: Drunk Driver Runs From Troopers, Gets Bit By K9
Can't escape a k-9 Perp got bite wounds to his back and under his left arm. When requested to provide a urine sample, Gregory refused and told troopers, "You don’t need a test. I can tell you right now how drunk and how high I am." He refused to have his rights read to him and rejected medical treatments at the hospital, including prescribed antibiotics for his wounds. While handcuffed to a hospital gurney, Gregory repeatedly threatened the arresting trooper. After being medically cleared, Gregory was booked into the Crittenden County Jail. He faces multiple charges, including, felony fleeing in a vehicle (creating a substantial risk of death or serious injury), fleeing on foot, driving whilei ntoxicated, refusal to submit to a chemical test, reckless driving and speeding (15 mph or more over the limit), disobeying traffic control devices and failing to yield to a stationary emergency vehicle and criminal mischief (the pursuit caused an estimated $1,100 in property damage) |
