On May 20, 2026, at about 3:30 p.m., San Dimas Sheriff's Station deputies responded to the 5500 block of North Orangecrest Avenue in unincorporated Azusa for an attempted suicide call. The call reported that a man at the location was harming himself with a knife. He was later identified as 38-year-old Dilen Flamino.

Shortly after deputies arrived, Flamino exited a side gate of the residence with a knife in one hand. Deputies ordered him to stop and get on the ground, but he did not comply. While still armed, Flamino charged directly at a deputy, and a deputy-involved shooting occurred.

Flamino was struck by gunfire and fell to the ground. Deputies rendered medical aid until Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel arrived. Flamino was taken to a local hospital and was listed in stable condition. No deputies or other people were injured.

A knife with an approximately three-inch metal blade was recovered at the scene. The involved deputy was identified as Deputy Jose Magana.
