Deaf Schizophrenic Driver Gets 2 Years Sentence for Running Over Motorist
Moscow, March 12. The verdict in the case of an incident with a deaf schizophrenic BMW driver is out today. Moscow court found deaf driver Alexander Prutyana guilty of intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm. The defendant appointed two years' imprisonment to be served in a penal colony. In addition, the court partially rewarded the claims of the victim and decided to recover from the defendant's 400 thousand rubles. Prutyana lawyer Vadim Shahi said he did not intend to appeal the verdict. The criminal case was heard in a special manner, without examining the evidence because the defendant admitted his guilt. The incident caused a wide public outcry occurred July 14, 2014 in the north-east of Moscow. The pensioner, who was driving the a Nissan, stopped at a red light and left the car and made a comment to the BMW driver. After that, there was a word exchange between the 2 men, and when the Nissan driver went to his car and started to open the door, the BMW driver deliberately hit him and fled the scene. The investigation revealed that the accused - Prutyan has a mental disability - of the third group, as he was diagnosed with schizophrenia. |
