A dash cam video has been released showing the shooting of a Kalamazoo County sheriff's deputy last Friday.
The video was released by Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard C. Fuller to media after a press conference this morning.
The video shows Deputy Jeff Nichols stopping a 2002 Chevy Silverado on East Michigan Avenue in Kalamazoo after it ran a traffic light at Sprinkle Road and Lake Street. As Nicols approaches the truck, the driver appears to open fire.
One of the shots strikes Nichols in the right arm. Nichols and his passenger, Reserve Deputy Jeremy Conley, return fire as the truck speeds away, according to the report.
Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident, which stretched into a series of police chases, one of which involved Battle Creek police, plus a stolen car and destruction of a garage in Portage.
William R. Wright Jr. 28, of Kalamazoo, faces nine felony charges, while a brother, Christopher A. Wright, 25, of Portage, is charged with resisting police, according to reports.
A third suspect, Jessica A. Carpenter, 26, of Kalamazoo, is charged with helping the Wrights elude authorities.
Nichols, who has 13 years with the sheriff department, was treated for his wound at a local hospital and released.
