Chinedu Okobi, a father and the brother of a Facebook executive, died last October after a fatal Taser encounter with San Mateo County deputies on a Millbrae roadway.

Okobi was unarmed. He was pronounced dead at Mills-Peninsula Hospital in Burlingame at 2:17 p.m.

Okobi was the third person to die in San Mateo County after being shocked with a Taser during an arrest last year.

The law-enforcement officers involved in Okobi’s arrest were Sgt. David Weidner, and deputies John DeMartini, Alyssa Lorenzatti, Joshua Wang and Bryan Watt.

The sheriff’s office said that on Oct. 3, Okobi was running in and out of traffic on El Camino Real in Millbrae and assaulted a deputy before he was shocked with the Taser. But after she saw video of the encounter, Ebele Okobi, Okobi’s sister, said evidence contradicted that official account.

Activists had called for the deputies to face criminal charges for Okobi’s death, and are planning to hold a demonstration at 6 p.m. Friday on the 1400 block of El Camino Real, near the site of the fatal confrontation between Okobi and the deputies.

All he had to do was stay calm and talk to the officers when first approached. He did EVERYTHING wrong.

And I'm going to say this again: Tasers do not kill people. They can contribute to death if the person has an existing medical condition or is on drugs (which cops have absolutely no way of knowing about). It's still 100x better than being shot or beaten with a baton.

Moral of the story is: don't start shit with the police.
