Couple on a Motorcycle Attempts to Rob a Motorist

An act of violence was reported Tuesday afternoon, October 14, in downtown Cali, when a couple on a motorcycle attempted to rob a driver, resulting in a shootout in the middle of the street.

The incident occurred in the San Bosco neighborhood and was recorded by several bystanders.

Video show the moment the man driving the motorcycle pulls out a firearm and repeatedly fires at the vehicle they were trying to rob.

The gunshots caused panic among pedestrians and drivers, forcing the car's driver to accelerate to escape the attack.

Immediately, units of the Cali Metropolitan Police began a chase that extended through several blocks of the city center.

During the attack, one of the projectiles struck a bus belonging to the MIO mass transit system that was traveling through the area. Authorities confirmed that one passenger was injured, though not seriously, and was taken to the University Hospital of Valle (HUV), where he received medical attention.

The incident generated fear among users and revived concerns about insecurity in downtown Cali, an area that has been the scene of several criminal acts in recent months.

In order to clarify this incident and capture those responsible, the District Administration, under the leadership of Mayor Alejandro Eder, announced a reward of up to 10 million pesos for anyone who provides information that helps identify and locate the perpetrators of the attempted robbery and shooting.

Authorities also confirmed that the motorcycle used in the attack, identified with license plate XMJ65A, has four active traffic tickets with the Cali Mobility Secretariat, all in the coercive collection stage, with infractions committed between March and October 2018.

The total amount owed is $3,847,263, a fact that has generated public outrage due to the lack of control over vehicles with million-dollar fines that continue to circulate freely in the city.

The Cali Metropolitan Police are continuing their investigation and reviewing security camera footage from the area to fully identify the assailants.

Update: The police captured the responsible couple, alias 'Minister' and 'Nataly', who were linked to more robberies and a homicide.
