A Davidson County Sheriff's Office correctional officer has been arrested in connection with the beating of a fully restrained inmate at a Nashville jail.

DCSO called the action "an excessive use of force" in a statement released Wednesday afternoon.

Corporal Kenneth Traylor, 46, is charged with misdemeanor assault in connection with the January attack at the Davidson County Maximum Correctional Center, according to information from court records and sheriff's office spokeswoman Karla West.

The inmate was not injured, according to a release from the department.

Traylor was escorting an inmate alone through a hallway in the jail on Jan. 25, according to the arrest affidavit that includes details from surveillance footage of the incident.

The inmate was in full restraints, including a "handcuff-bellychain with locks and leg irons," according to the affidavit.

When they reached the elevator, Traylor stepped in front of the inmate to push the control button.

The inmate, who was carrying a white mesh bag, then struck Traylor in the back of the head with it, according to the affidavit.

In response, Traylor grabbed the inmate and threw him to the ground, according to the affidavit. He then sat on top of the inmate and put his hands around the man's neck, pushing him further to the ground, the charges indicate.

He then began to strike the man with his closed right fist, while continuing to hold his neck with his left hand, according to the charges.

Within the same minute, at least five fellow corrections officers arrived and attempted to remove Traylor from the altercation.

The entire interaction took less than a minute, according to the time stamps provided in the affidavit. The affidavit said Traylor's story was inconsistent with the video evidence and that his story was not supported by the video evidence.

Traylor was placed on 40 hours of unpaid leave after the altercation, which the DCSO said is the most severe sanction served other than termination.

The case was reviewed internally and then sent to Metro Nashville Police on Feb. 15, according to the DCSO's statement.

While the criminal case is pending, Traylor will not serve in a public safety position, although further determination of his employment status will wait until after the case, the department said Wednesday.

Jail records show Traylor was booked into the Davidson County jail on Tuesday night and posted bail later that evening.

He was hired by the department in July 2016. DCSO said he has no previous use of force disciplinary notes in his file.

The only reason the guard punched the guy was in response to his attack.

Cons do this type of stuff endlessly in an effort to gain some kind of prison reputation for the attack.


Cons also get greater regard of the prisoners by setting up a trap (like in this video) designed to get the guard in trouble.
