The South Carolina Highway Patrol has released dash cam video showing former Mount Pleasant Major Frank Riccio failing a field sobriety test and getting arrested for DUI.
Authorities were called out to the scene on Saturday, March 3, on US Highway 17, south of Georgetown. That's where Riccio ran his Jeep into the median, causing it to roll on its side.
Dash came footage shows Riccio was having trouble walking as troopers gave him a field sobriety test. The state trooper had to repeatedly ask him to follow a small flash light with his eyes, instead of looking at the trooper.
Riccio was eventually placed under arrest after he stumbled backwards while the state trooper was giving him directions for part of the test.
While in the trooper's patrol car, the video shows Riccio saying that he was not on any medication during the accident, and that he was on his way to Myrtle Beach for a flight.
He was then taken into custody in Georgetown and later released on bond.
Following the incident, Riccio resigned from his position with the Mount Pleasant Police Department, after over 29 years on the force.
