Convenience Store Clerk Shot in the Head and Killed During a Robbery

MEMPHIS, TN – A convenience store clerk was shot in the head and killed during a robbery in South Memphis.

It happened at Sam’s Food Market in the 1000 block of Mississippi Boulevard at Walker Street around 8:30 a.m., Friday, November 21, 2008.

According to Memphis Police Detective Monique Martin, a man walked into the store with a gun and demanded money from the clerk behind the counter.

Investigators say at some point during the robbery, the suspect shot the 42 year-old clerk in the head.

The victim was taken to the Med in critical condition, where he later died.

Police say a second employee was in the store at the time of the shooting, but was not hurt. Investigators believe there were two customers who may have been eyewitnesses to the crime.

Detectives say there was an attempted robbery Thursday, November 20th and the store was robbed twice in 2007.
