Car-theft-goes-wrong Near Pert, AUS

A car-theft-gone-wrong in Toodyay, north-east of Perth, on Aug 19.

Police say the accused man approached the red Holden Commodore about 4.10pm on Monday after it was left unlocked for a brief period outside an auto centre on Stirling Terrace with the keys in the ignition.

When the owner realised his car was being stolen, he ran over and attempted to open the driver’s door but the vehicle accelerated away before crashing into a white Ford Ranger, police claim.

As the owner and other members of the public attempted to smash their way into the car with a pole and remove the driver, he sped away again nudging another vehicle before losing control and slamming into a red Ford Everest.

After exiting the vehicle, the driver was grabbed and held on the ground by several members of the public in a citizens’ arrest until police arrived.

He was taken to Northam District Hospital with minor injuries before being charged with a string of offences.

He is due to face Northam Magistrate’s Court next month.

A second man, seen with the accused man before the incident, is wanted by police for questioning.

He was last seen running from the area.

Well, right off the bat, I think I see what went wrong here.
